Frequently asked questions: Asset Management

What does an independent asset manager do?

An independent asset manager manages your securities portfolio according to an investment strategy agreed with you. The assets stay in a custody account in your name at a bank; the manager acts under an asset management power of attorney and is not tied to any bank.

Does an asset manager in Switzerland need a licence?

Yes. Since the Financial Institutions Act (FinIA), asset managers have needed authorisation from FINMA and are subject to ongoing supervision by a supervisory organisation. On ASSET.CH, the «Regulation verified» badge shows that we have cross-checked this information against the register.

What level of assets makes an asset manager worthwhile?

It depends on the firm: some asset managers take on clients from a few hundred thousand francs, others only from several million. With the «Your investable assets» filter, you see only firms whose minimum investment matches your assets.
